Default Front license screen

I put a front license screen on front of my 03 and I can't open it up behind it to let more air flow.the car runs rough, even took it out on the interstate for a 60 mile run,at cruzing speed it acts like it's starving for fuel.does anybody know what might be wrong.the car has a black wing filter in which it was on it when I purchased the car from a dealership.

Mine is open to my intercooler, made a noticeable difference in cooling.

Did you start having issues after the install ?
Can't see how that is an issue, check your fuel filter, plug wires, plugs, all the simple stuff first.

Is that an item you purchased, or did you cut and modify the original?

I also purchased a front license plate screen because I installed an oil cooler for track days. Go to eBay and type in "front license plate screen".
GSdesigns sells the one I bought for $99.99 with free shipping. Great item!

I have one on mine and what I don't understand is why you can't open it up, All I did was take a 2 inch hole saw and cut away.

Can you explain what you mean by "can't open it up behind it"?

I'm not trying to give you a hard time but I have to ask you where you think that extra air is going to go and what it will do when it gets there? And, are you thinking that more air is going to make your car run smoother? If your car is running rough there is something wrong.

We'll I did cut out behind it but my motor runs very rough like it's not getting enough air are fuel.i made a plate to cover the hole up and it runs find.even try to reopen again but stii the same.could it be that my car has been reprogrammed are some.i bought it from a dealership so I don't really knows what's been done except for the after market filter.just wondering maybe it's had a tuner put on it keeping the computer from adjusting my air flow.im just not sure.

No it's plugged in my car runs extremely good as long as I don't open up behind the front license plate then it runs like crap.

Something's strange, there is nothing behind the front plate that could affect the way it's running, unless you have some kind of a short somewhere back there, I would really investigate everything to be safe

There no wires cut the only problem my engine does not run smooth if it has the extra air to my engine department.with the original license cover my engine runs great.just when it's open in the front that it runs rough.maybe I need to post this thread in tech section.

Are you getting any codes?

Can you pull the codes and let us know what they are? Pull them or check them either way!

It sounds like for one reason or another when it is getting the extra push of fresh air the MAF is not able to adjust for it, almost like some is getting in unmetered!

Check all your connections again to make sure there are no leaks so to speak!

Let us know what you find!

Thanks,Matt
