We just had a flash flood on my way to work around 3:30. I went through water that came over the hood almost to the windshield. I thought it would quit but it kept going. After that the deep spots that everyone was stopping for I just went through. I didn't like it but it shows what these cars can do. I just decided to keep the stock air cleaner.

IMHO, that was incredibly foolish, and you were extremely lucky that the engine didn't hydro-lock AND you weren't floated off into a bad place and drowned.
You ain't driving a snorkeled Humvee, ferChristsake.

Not the best idea IMO... You got extremely lucky that the car didn't cease up.

Keep it up and you'll be looking at a new engine or even worse.

I had the same thing happen to me last summer. I had no idea the roads flooded, was on my way home from work and by the time I realized how deep the water was it was to late to turn around. I just barely moved through it at idle. Car did great, the a couple of codes after I got out of the water, but that was it. I even got a little water in the car. Was a freak rain storm, but I will never do that again. I had a Vararam that lucky I had not installed yet. I sold it (the Vararam) on eBay a week later.

Best to stay out of high water but I guess you didn't know the area.

Some years ago was traveling to another city and got hit by the mother of rain storms...couldn't pull over on the highway (black car, scared I would be road kill) kept going with traffic. Wipers couldn't keep up, windows fogged and big trucks washing me down with every pass. My Corvette was hydroplaning so bad I almost couldn't keep it in a straight line down the road. If the Corvette died I am sure I would have been buried with it...absolutely sure. It kept running TG!!! The underside of hood pad has a high water line on it till today. I felt like a U boat commander. That's my close call with a watery grave. Rob
PS would NEVER replace stock air filter!!

I went out at my lunch break, 8:30 and checked it out its all dry inside and runs good. I was checking the roof for leaks during the storm and had no leaks there. Some people do call them bass boats.

My wifes uncle died a couple years ago driving through flood waters. His pickup started floating, he got scared and jumped out. He was talking on his cell phone with his son when this happened.

That sucks. Would he have been better off if he stayed with the truck?

You are a bad Mo Fo! If you would have had anything else you would have hydro locked. I just keep a K&N in my stock housing. To me the others are too exposed. I don't see how the guys with the air intake snorkeled to their front license plate housing do it. Maybe they are the ones who don't drive in the rain. I too have had water splash over the hood and thought we were done and we just kept on truckin'. So far Kumhos seem to be a great rain tire.

Doesn't water "almost" over the hood....cover the intake...stock, vararam, or any other filter?

It takes more than a little bit of water to lock an engine, You have to be going through standing water. Just driving in the rain won't hurt a thing. My previous car was an '04 Mach 1. It sucked in rain all day through the shaker scoop. She didn't seem to mind a bit.
