NE and CA Emissions 00 model year C5's have pre-cats at the end of the exhaust header.
2001 - 2003 LS1's and 2001 LS6 have the same precat configuration as 00 NE and CA Emissions.
2002 - 2003 LS6 removed the precats and went with a larger more efficient set of main cats.
If you remove the precats, you do not need O2 simulators. If you remove the main cats you do need after cat O2 simulators.
The C5 has O2 sensors before the main cats that perform engine feeback control during non-wot. And a set after the main cats, soley to determine main cat functionlity.
Not to hijack the thread but I have a similar question about the exhaust set up. I use to be a Mustang guy so I understood the exhaust configurations (x or h pipe with shorty vs longtube headers).
I will probably want to get an off-road x pipe before I put longtubes on the corvette so my question is if I get an x pipe now will it work down the road with future long tubes or will I have to purchase a matching x pipe that will hook up to long tube headers?

You will need a new x pipe that pairs up with your long tubes...as they vary in length. My corsa exteme x pipe matched up with the stock exhaust but wont fit my ARH longtubes... I had to get the matching offroad pipe from ARH
