I had to go down to 250 grit to get all the scratches out of mine, then 400, 600, 800 and up to 1000. My body shop did the clear coat, they used a 1500 grit to smooth it out, then clear coated it and let it dry.
It's a lot of work doing it by hand to get those scratches out, two days, my arms ached. So if this place can do it for $350 or whatever...consider that.

GM will not help in any way I think everyone who has this problem should contact GM.
