Default Mod Questions/Suggestions

Ok, I'm sure this has been asked multiple times before, but I tried the search and just couldn't find what I was looking for. I have an 03 EB Z with just under 33k miles. I purchased it about 6 months ago and I absolutely LOVE the car! Its been a great car with no issues..I got a great deal on the car but thats beyond the point..sorry for my rambling. The car is completely stock!

I would like to cam the car. Im just unsure of the supporting mods that are required/recommended/suggested. I want to go with the TSP 233/239 .595/.603 on a 112 LSA.

I am just not familiar with the LS6 platform. I know LS1 cars with cams usually use a LS6 ported oil pump and LS2 timing chain and bigger injectors and things like this.

Now I do understand that new springs are a MUST..just unsure of the injectors, oil pump, and other things.

I will have Long tubes, off road-x, and a CAI(most likely a blackwing).

I will eventually most likely do a FAST 92 and possibly upgraded heads.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Your plan sounds pretty good. I would do the oil pump and timing chain as you mentioned. Injectors probably aren't mandatory, but a good idea. Make sure you employ a good tuner...

I have the exact cam you are wanting to a T. This is what it should roughly sound like idling at 950rpm, though I only have headers and an X-pipe with the stock Ti's. you need to get new lifters as well. I didn't do this and the car was back in the shop two weeks later getting them replaced. I used LS7 in mine. I think the cam kit comes with PAC .650 duals in it, but I don't remember off the top of my head. I love that cam except I have a FAST 102/102 setup and PRC 205 heads with mine. Made 470/416 last time when I had it tuned. Also, I got a set of 36lb/hr injector for it to be safe. Enjoy it.

lifters aren't mandatory, you have to pull the heads to replace them so if you aren't removing the heads for other reasons personally I would leave them be for now... a ported ls6 oil pump will work or I like the melling 10295, it's a higher pressure stock volume pump... I also used a katech c5r chain and reused my factory crank/cam gears... my car had about 36k at the time I did the cam so I really didn't see the need to replace some of those items like the gears/lifters/etc... I did replace the cam retainer plate because that gasket was flat and the plate we have has been superceded to the ls2 style plate which uses recessed torx bolts instead of normal bolts so if you decide to replace that plate you will need the newer style plate and torx bolts, might run about $30 from the dealer for everything... you will also need pushrods but I wouldn't buy those until you have the cam installed that way you can measure for the right length... ls6 based cams are ground on a different base circle than ls1 cams and some companies couldn't even tell you which one they use so the only way to surely know is to check for yourself... you might also look into a walbro 255 pump and fuel pump wire harness, racetronix sells a good setup for pretty cheap... as stated above you may not need injectors, every car is different but your tuner will be able to tell you if they are needed or not... I would do the longtubes/exhaust/intake before the cam and the heads before the fast 92 mm if it were my car and definitely do as much as you can at one time so you don't have to keep going back for retunes, it gets expensive

Thanks for all the great advice!! I think I have it all figured out now. I have a great tuner that in my opinion is local LS GENIUS! He is known through out the LS world and actually built the standing mile record C5 from 2012. I have personally seen the work he has done and I trust NO ONE else to work on my car. Yes I will be doing push rods, and oil pump. Still undecided on the lifters and injectors. I will let my builder/tuner decide/advise me on all of that. Thanks for all the very helpful advice guys!
