Default P0171 code from CAI?

Hello all, I have an Airaid CAI on my 02 Z06 for about 2 weeks now and today driving home my CEL comes on. its a P0171 code. car runs just fine and does not idle rough. I checked all the fittings and hose clamps and all is tight. What will cause this code to come up. I have not cleaned the MAF yet if that makes a difference. I also just installed some LED's in the interior and had the battery disconnected. thanks for the help. I also cleared the codes in the DIC i guess ill find out if it comes back on tomorrow.

Do you have aftermarket exhaust as well or just the CAI?

Do you have a MAF screen in the car?
Reasons for a Lean code when doing an intake:
* Bad MAF reading... Add Haltech MAF screen
* Loose or bad connection between intake pipes after the MAF (Leaky). Check connections and try spraying carb/maf cleaner around all the connections see if you find a leak.
* Unrelated issue that surfaced due to the intake.. If you have lean fuel trims already this might have put you over the edge of where the light kicks on (+18-20% fuel trims).. check for exhaust leaks before the O2 sensors, vac leaks on motor (Fuel injector Oring, cracked vac line, plugged injector, bad seal on intake manifold ect...)
* Need tuned

Hope this gets you in the right direction.. the P0171 will not click on unless you are greater then 18-20% +Fuel trims.. a Screen or a tune usually fixes the issue... but you do want also check the fuel trims after adding a screen (to optimize the power)

My stock Z06 with a Vararam and Corsa XPipe and Catback system would throw lean codes until I had a custom tune. That is why I asked about the aftermarket exhaust in conjunction with your CAI.

You may have a MAF issue or you may need a custom tune to get rid of the codes.

Its the Blue Synthetic filter. I have been driving it for 2 days now after I have cleared the code and so far so good. I tooK the CAI out cleaned the TB and MAF and reassembled the CAI. So far so good, But I guess time will tell. Im still curious as to why it threw the code. I just want to know if it is due to the CAI letting in to much air on a stock tune.

Your ECBM is still learning the new air flow.

- Start the car, let idle for 10 min (from Cold)
- Turn off for 10 min
- Start the car, let idle for 10 min (from Hot)
- Turn off for 10 min
- Start the car let it idle for 1 min
- Turn off and let completely cool
- Start the car, let idle for 10 min
- Turn off the car for 10 min.
- Start the car, drive moderate (no WOT) for 3-5 miles

That should relearn your timing and AFR

Ok cool i will try that. Thanks Chip.

Also the CEL came back on today but it was the P0174 code same as the P0171. I guess both banks run lean. I will try your advise tomorrow. Thanks again.
