When I get in and out of my car I usually put my right arm on the console lid. Of course the lid wasn’t built to support that much weight. I have another lid to replace it with but before I do that I thought I’d see if there is a way to make the lid stronger by either reinforcing the lid structure or make it out of something a bit stronger.
Has anyone else either done this? If so, can you point me to a thread? I can’t find anything from searching the forum.
You could use one of those leather padded covers (I have one on my '99) and put some sort of reinforcement - shaped/formed metal sheet, plywood, molded/formed fiberglass or other composite material) between the top of the console lid and the padded cover. This would spread out the pressure when you press down on it.
That, or just figure out another egress method.
K9Leader Red cars are faster. At least, they feel faster.
Don't use the console, Use the little ledge in the door jamb with your left hand to get out.
Use the ledge all the time. Often wondered if that is what its for? Also to get in without damaging my new seat skins I grab the windshield frame(left hand) to hold my weight without sliding across the seat.
I am also very hard on the cover. . . .being 6'8 and old makes it that way. . . .lol I will be trying to reinforce mine before much longer. If i come up with something clever, i can let you know.

Definitely let me know what you come up with. In the mean time I'll try and adjust somewhat.
