Default Vette Nuts Sub Install

Howdy all
I took advantage of the recent VetteNuts sub sale. The sub arrived in a couple week's time (they were busy). The sub box itself seems to be very well made. It is very nicely covered with high-quality back fabric which blends into the FRC trunk area well.

The sub box is a bit 'bulgy'; it's a bit bigger than I expected. It sits very snuggly in and on top of the cubbyhole.

The only potential fitment issue I noticed was that the edge of the sub box overlaps the cover for the storage well a bit. With a sub on one side, it's no issue. If you had 2 subs, the cover might be a bit stuck. see the overlap here:

Power
The car's PO had a monster sub box in the trunk area driven by an enormous old MTX amp. I've removed the sub, but decided to repurpose the amp to drive this little guy. At 1500W mono with 1/0 gauge wiring, it's a bit overkill - but it'll do The amp has been mounted in the storage bin under the cover. It runs very cool driving this small sub so I'm not too worried about overheating the amp.
The 1/0 power & remote turn-on lead had been run into the storage area & this worked out fine.

I used some generic 12g leftover 'zip wire' to run power from the amp to sub, tucked under the carpet. It's a fairly nice clean install; only the sub visible with the bin cover in place.

Sound
Very nice and clean... Limited by the signal coming from the stock HU. With the engine off, the amp gain set to 100% and EQ flat, the sound is very nice and smooth. The engine is so loud the sub is drowned (LT's, no cats, bullets)! Next up is a quality HU with high-po sub out signal. That should 'release' the sub a bit.

Overall:
If you don't mind losing some cargo area, build a nice box yourself. If you want in a simple, light, space-saving, elegant solution, drop in one of these babies. Very nice!

How's the bass. I've been thinking about getting them for a while. But I like when the bass hits and I'm not sure they would work for me. Do you know if they can have these made for a 12" spaeaker? Thanks

you could easily free up your storage space with the new micro digital amps, or, a jl 500/1v2 will also fit under your passenger seat if it's a manual rack

sub box looks great though

someone needs to send this design to china and have them mass produced so they can be retailed for 149

and make an 8" version around half a cube. would take up less space and allow an 8 to dig a bit deeper

Looks great! This is such a no brainer to improve the stock sound - I went with a center cubby design. Be even better with the new HU you're planning. What kind of door speakers are you getting/have?

I think they make these only for 10"

Thus far, it does not 'hit' like a large dedicated sub box. It adds a nice foundation but won't comb your hair. I'm pretty sure 2 of them, loaded with JL's or other good drivers, would satisfy all but the most hard-core bassheads.

I bought a new little micro-amp, RF 300Wx1, but will return it since the existing MTX fits nicely in the cubby.

Door Speakers: JL C3's at the moment. I plan to revisit this as the soundstage is awful, down at my ankles. Looking at installing separates higher up in the doors; but this will be another thread
