Puddle and my Z
Hello to all,
Well tonight my car went through a puddle, unexpectedly. Im not used to low cars and i really didnt think about it. Went through the puddle, car turned off after sputtering. Turned it over and drove off, when i looked back, a huge cloud of smoke, which looked like mist, was coming out the exhaust. She kept sputtering and i kept driving (stupid me). Well i drove to the store and i turned her back on to head home and it started fine. Then as i slowly creeped to about 6,000rpm it sputtered softly and the check engine light came on.
The smoke only came out for like 5-10 seconds of me giving it gas while in neutral.
Bad news? What should i expect?
Oh my tune is funny and the car dies once in a while when cold or coming to a quick stop. Thats why i turned it back on without thinking of the water.

Had to drive my Z through VERY flooded streets about 6 months ago. I got cought in unexpected conditions on the way home from work. Anyway, I crept through the DEEP waters unable to turn back. The car never missed a beat. I did get a few codes thrown, but I reset them and they never came back. I was VERY LUCKY! Hope you have the same luck.

I agree with pulling the codes and posting them here. Hopefully it is nothing major going on with the engine due to the water.

Sounds like you did ingest some water, that's the fog out the exhaust. The spitting a sputtering is probably the plugs got wet. The check engine light is probably the misfire from the plugs. The fact it's drivable and revs to 6000rpm is good, no hydrolock. It should dry out and be fine. Check your air filter and see if it's wet. If so lay it in the sun, pop your hood and set the car out in the sun for awhile. Just my opinion on years of experience in automotive repairs

I'd also check the oil and make sure it is clean, and not milky. Just to be sure you didn't suck too much water in.

C5 has something like 13 (or so) ground points. If one or more are corroded or loose, and the car gets wet; it can throw some codes, until the moisture evaporates. (ask me how I know that).
Most of these grounds can be serviced and cleaned up easily.
Not sure about the sputtering issue you have, if moisture/grounds can affect that. Guys here on the forum can comment more knowledeably about that, than me.
