My recent experience with code C1214. And voltage fluctuation fix!
So originally my battery had gotten weak, charging problems, fluctuating volts, diming lights when using brakes or turn signals and throwing 10+ codes. One of which (C1214) I could not clear after buying a new AC Delco battery and cleaning all the grounds. So clearly the voltage problem had permanently cause the C1214 Code. I also noticed that my Voltage was much better with the new battery but not completly back to normal. I was still having charging fluctuations of 13.3 to 13.8 volts. Where as before it would hold steady at 14. 2 most of the time.
I found and followed the repair procedure for re-soldering the EBCM. Very easy unit to remove. Nothing to remove for access. All done from passeneger side of car. I also found 2 other rectangular solder joints just below the 5 relay solder joints crack all the way around. Re-installed and Voila! All codes gone! Traction and ABS lights off!. Furthermore the charging system was back to normal! 14.2 volts bang on. No fluctuations. Perfect! I was surprised to see how the traction, abs lights and C1214 code had affected the electrical system.
I've been getting C1214 after the car sits for a few days. I figured it was due to the 5 year old Optima red top. Is there a thread with the details on what needs to be re-soldered?
Follow that! I didnt need to remove anything for access. Work from the passenger side. There is 6 screws to remove it not 4. And inspected all the other solders. I found the 2 large rectangular solders just below the relay solders cracked all the way around!
Make sure you have a 10/32 or similar sized tap handy and a 1.5in threaded all the way screw. Or die the screw all the way down. Took me about 2-3 hours start to finish.
