I am considering changing to Royal Purple brand of engine oil. My '99 C5 FRC has 57k - no engine mods - used as "DD" - mostly highway - change oil/filter every 5k regardless of oil life indicator. Car garaged for winter. Oil changed prior to garaging. Anyone have experience/opinion - greatly appreciated.
I used Royal Purple for a couple of years and switched to Amsoil. I now use Amsoil in all of our cars and our power lawn equipment. I'm sure you'll get a variety of opinions on what people like the best. It's kind of like the best wax, best gasoline, etc., etc.
There are some good full synthetic engine oils available. Just make sure they have the current "Dexos" standard listed on the container. For a street driven car, there is nothing wrong at all with using Mobil-1. Get it at Wal-Mart when it comes up on sale. And use a good filter too. WIX, Purolator, NAPA Gold, or AC Delco.

Mobil 1 would serve you just fine, but a number of forum members use Royal Purple in their cars and like it too. Your choice and RP will work well too.
I just decided to give this a try and so far so good plus I got it on sale for $22.95 and had a $5 off coupon woohoo
Also, check out the test results... interesting... before there is a pissing contest, I did not go by these results. I actually found them after I decided to try this oil and so far I'm happy with it.

Based on your driving habits…RP will be fine. Probably flushing money down the toilet though. RP is no better than off the shelf Wal-Mart M1, Castrol, Pennzoil that go for $5/quart. RP is actually pretty damn unimpressive if you cruise over to BITOG and look at a few UOA's.
Any Oil with the GM4718M approval is fine. You will not see any difference with any of them on a street driven car. Your car will not magically make more HP or last longer with RP or any other boutique engine oil.
I just buy whatever brand of approved synthetic oil that's on sale that particular week.

There are those that claim technical benefits, but RP is also considerably more money . . . Mobil 1 works just fine as will Penzoil, etc.
If it meets GM 4718 no problem, pick what you like, don't believe the hype/advertising and be happy.....oil opinions are like an a**hole, everybody has one.
