Late model headers on 98 LS1 - emission help
I have a 98 LS1 vette and am looking to buy a set of Kooks headers from a guy. He told me that these headers were on an 03. He said they will mount up and work but that I will need an air tube from a 2001+ vette or cap the egr bung on the headers.
I live in Atlanta and have to get emissions inspections. When I look up the price of an air tube they are all over $100. Does this all sound accurate? After installing the headers I'm going to get it tuned. Could I just cap off the egr bung and get the emissions stuff tuned out? Or am I better off looking for an air tube?
I've never had aftermarket headers so this is all new to me. I appreciate the help.

depends on how difficult they are.. some states they dont look or care if the AIR is missing if it passes. Colorado they will fail you visual like cali.. you can find used AIR tubes on here, guys pull them off all the time when doing headers..
my guess if you find someone with used ones, you will pay around 50-100 total. check the venders that recycle vettes, i bet then can hook you up with them or maybe post in the WTB section of the classifieds.

Mine doesn't have any emissions stuff or cats .. Lol
Passed with flying colors in Clayton county .. Kooks headers and off road pipe then borla from there back
Not looking forward to emissions next year after I get this stage 3 blower cam in .. The guy is probably gonna look at my funny but as long as the computer says it's good I'm fine with it haha

You will need a good tune and passing emissions will be a breeze. My guy will hook you up. There fore, You can scrap all the emissions tubes. You can cap it off if your not concerned with a random tube sticking out of the header. I cut mine off and sent them to millers to be heat coated. Any exhaust shop cut and seal the tube, some even for free.

I think it's all in the tune
The only thing I know my guy didn't do was look under the car to check for cats .. But it was raining that day
And then again they've never looked under my ranger but it has to do the sniffer test bc it's a 95
The newer cars don't get the sniffer .. Just plug up to check for codes I think
