Default Short-throw shifter - your thoughts?

After getting the engine rebuilt, I figured I would take the opportunity and install a short-throw shifter as it's something I've been wanting to do for a while.

There's Hurst, B&M, MGW, etc. Essentially, they all seem to do the same thing... If they perform differently, I am not sure what the different brands offer.

I'd like to retain the factory shift ****, so hopefully that narrows down my choices.

With that said, what does the C5 crew recommend? Is there a specific brand that is the short throw shifter to go for?

Thanks much!

I like the C6 shifter.
It's significantly shorter than the C5 and the round **** is like a ball joint extension of your hand.
I actually mounted the **** 1 inch higher and drilled a 1/8" hole in the stalk for a short coarse screw to hold it in place.
I have a padded console and the extra inch made it perfect for me.

I used a hurst short shifter, its like a cue ball on a stick, I didn't much like it, that's the only info I can offer at this time lol.

im sorry for the off topic question , but im really interested to know what rebuild kit you went with , and what your total costs were to have it done?

Feel free to pm me if you don't want to say in main. thanks

I have had all three, Hurst, C6, MGW.

Stock C5 stinks
Hurst rattled and buzzed all the time
C6 was ok and an improvement. There is a vendor that sells this with a shortened threaded rod.
MGW is the best of the lot. I really like it. No rattles. Nice and tight.

I have the Mgw and I love it. It's a huge improvement over the stock unit. I went from stock to the MGW though so no comparison to an of the other available units.

I had the Hurst shifter in a C5 and can verify that it rattled and buzzed. My wife hated it compared to stock.

I just installed a used C6 shifter. I reused my shifter box. I also did the Anti Venom mod. There is a noticeable improvement. It is not as radical as the MGW but I am satisfied with it. I would suggest that you ask some of yout Corvette friends to try their different shifters. The MGW has gotten a lot of good reviews.

I have the MGW. It is a nice short throw with very precise gates.

The effort and notchiness is much more than stock. I didn't like that. I did the anti-venom mod with one washer and it is much better. I like it a lot now.

Sounds like MGW is the winner. Thanks to the B&M folks for the feedback. I definitely want to avoid any further noise - buzzing and rattling is not appealing.

I'd be curious to see what the MGW feels like before and after the anti-venom mod.

I see MGW offers three shift **** applications: C6, C7, and 9/16-18 threaded.

Does the OEM shift **** use the threaded variant? Should I decide to go with an aftermarket ****, is 9/16-18 a common or standard shift **** size?

Threaded for C5 ****. You can usually get aftermarket ***** in a variety of threading... I'm sure you'd be able to find whatever you liked in the 9/16-18 thread.

I use the MGW race **** with mine and love it (it's threaded).

I have a C6 shift box, C6 ****, a Hurst short throw, and anti-venom mod with 2 washers. I like it. I might add a 3rd washer to see how it feels.

MGW is the way to go on any vehicle I have ever driven.

That being said, stock sucks. So does Hurst. I hate my Hurst, its what came with the car.

I have the Hurst. Mine does not rattle, but does buzz at WOT above 5000 rpm.

I got rid of the iconic Hurst ball and replaced it with the long (4") Hardbar delrin **** which is much easier to grip. It also gives much better leverage, enough that I decided not to do the anti-venom mod.
