Hey guys, been tossing around the idea of having my wheels powdercoated. Whoever owned the car before me obviously doesn't know what a curb is... As they are pretty rashed. I like the factory grey but was thinking about going with a little darker/gunmetal color and wanted to see if anyone else has had theirs coated a different color. If so post up some pics and let's see them!
add some silver to the black and make dark titanium
usually use base/clear on wheels to preserve the temper. powdercoat subjects the wheels to extended periods in the oven.
also very easy to mix up your own colors with base clear, you can buy a pint of black, pint of silver and add a bit of silver at a time until you get the color you want
I painted my track wheels with Duplicolor's Gunmetal grey wheel paint. They came out pretty good and gave me the "brake dust grey" color that I wanted.
^^ looks great on yellow, also very very easy to make your own colors if you want gunmetal.
when i did these
that's 50/50 ford alloy and honda vogue silver. shifting the % toward either color would affect how the color came out and the silver to dark gunmetal spectrum,
ford alloy is a really dark gunmetal and the honda silver is a really bright silver, both metallics, easy to mix as long as you buy both in the same brand

Looks good! I looked at a yellow Z a few days before I got my black one

I would need to buy a spray gun to go that route. There is a local guy who paints wheels for a pretty fair price. He did my buddies and I thought they were powdercoated they came out so good. Maybe that's the way to go

not the best quality but they shoot alright for doing a set of wheels
the big benefit to this way is with color, you have SO many potential options
if a local guy will do it for a fair price that could be the way to go. would also cost less in supplies since you wouldn't have to buy more clear than you need. you could just buy your paint and mix it to your liking, then give it to the guy
or, maybe you'll find a color you like and not need to custom mix
This is a powder coated wheel from a friend's 2001 Z06, not sure what they will look like on a black car....
Looks good, but also not sure I would like that on black. I'm thinking a dark gunmetal or maybe a copper/gold color. Found a picture of a black z with copper wheels and it looked amazing!
