My glove box latch on my 2002 Vette fell apart into 2 pieces. It is apparently a common problem. The tips of the plastic pylons break off and release the long rivet that holds the 2 halves together. I made a temporary repair until I can find a bargain source for a new one. I used some thin thermostat wire to bind together the 2 halves (I wrapped the wire around the rivet, drilled a small hole in the other half and inserted the wire thru it, and bound the 2 halves together with the wire). I strengthened the contact between the rivet and the ends of the pylons with some WELD putty. Does anyone have a good source for a new latch?

Not sure if you have to buy a new glove box lid just to get the latch, but worth a call to a place like gmpartshouse.com to see if the latch is sold separately. If not, try one of the used parts vendors here on the forum. Just remember that you wouldn't be able to use your key to lock the glove box unless you can get the new latch re-keyed.

Removing the old lock from the latch is easy; there are youtube videos posted for it.

I'm assuming you bought a used latch. If it comes with a lock you will need to pick the lock to remove it. I ended up finding a cheap file cabinet key that went in the lock. The glove box lock only uses a few pins so it's easy to pick. You may get lucky and your key will be close enough to unlock it. Also try the small nail file found on some nail clippers. Just about anything you can slide into the lock and can wiggle while you do it may work.
Thanks stealth02 (Rob). I received the glove box latch today in good condition. I was quickly able to remove the lock from it with an old key and a small screwdriver (I will replace the lock with my old one). The deal saved me some $$$$.
is there an issue with the latches I haven't heard about? I went on vacation for a month this summer, leaving my vette locked in the garage. When I returned the glove box was open and the fuel door was open but the car was still locked.
