oxidized suspension components upgrade vs. "clean"
I will post up pics when I get some, but believe me when I say the cast AL suspension bits are absolutely oxidized - crusty powdery AL coating everywhere, all bolts rusted/corroded, and may even hamper alignments in the future similar to my DD G8 GT I previously had where a tie rod end "froze".
Thinking of a couple options, in all scenarios I will be replacing/upgrading shocks - thinking either bilstein non-adjustable, 04 Z06 shocks (I have 03 Z) or C6 Z06 shocks - what would be your choice and why?
Then when it comes to the control arms/bolts - I was thinking of putting the car on jack stands during the winter & removing all the suspension bits, sanding them down/cleaning, then either trying to polish/clearcoat or send out for powder coating. In regard to bolts and other bits - can they be bought from a dealer or off the shelf? I would also replace end links, bushings, sway bar (even that is corroded), at the end of the day would it be easier/cheaper for me to simply look for used parts w/ less oxidization or buy a whole new setup?
Are there aftermarket full suspension options?
any idea appreciated
