How many of you have experienced tranny problems with your Z06? I lost my 3rd gear and I hear there is a problem with the 3-4 shifter fork in the transmission. I have talked with DRM, LPE, Mallet and KATECH and they all have said there is a distinct problem with the transmission. Ironically, there are three Z06'S laid up with the same problem in the Southern Wisconsin area, mine being one of them. Please give me your feed back if you have experienced transmission problems because the GM regional rep in our area claims there is no problem. Any help on this topic will be appriciated, as I need ammunition to go against this problem by Monday.
P.S. I won't even get into the warranty issues with you- what a joke.
Tom L,
GM warranty reps ALWAYS claim there are NO problems.............having a warranty, is almost a non issue...you have to fight like hades EVRY time you have an issue...it's almost NOT worth the hassle...
The MFGR's have gotten to the point of where they are like the Health care system.......denial.................alwa ys, and we ain't talkin a river in Egypt.
I am having a problem with mine also. However, my problem is with 4th gear mostly. It pops out unless it is pulled into gear with some effort ( a good yank) and it grinds almost every time if shifted hard at high rpm.
My dealer did a searach and there are no TSB's on this, as yet anyway.
I have ordered a steel shift fork (3rd & 4th gear) from D & D Performance for about $50.00. It is actually from the Viper Trans. They also use the T-56 as do Mustangs. The shift forks in the Corvette trans are aluminum. The parts are supposed to be interchangeable. The mechanic at my dealer will use it if he deems it to be "better". But it seems obvious that it is. They are currently on backorder from Tremec.
i just now got back from my dealer about my trans. problems-
mine got stuck in 4th gear driving it normally.
gm says they will NOT warranty my powertrain any longer. :mad
this is after my Z06 got stuck in 4th 3000 miles ago- they fixed it that time.
soon after that, I had some "mods" done and GM had no issues replacing the clutch in the car.
now, they are saying they will not fix my transmission due to "mods"- ALSO, they hadnt even moved the car since it had been towed in (sat there for a full week) - no one from the dealership had called me to tell me the news, so today I drove up there and my service writer told me i had to speak with his mgr.
i just called GM's 800 # and I hope to hear something positive on this issue very soon.
I'm having the same problem with my tranny as you. It grinds every time when shifting hard into 3rd gear at about 6-6500 rpms. Any input is appreciated. Thanks.
Tom, I can give you lots of info. I have a 2000 conv. 6 spd. I am on my 3rd tranny. They have rebuilt linkages, shifters, reverse gears, replaced trannys, and syncros, etc. My problem was hitting reverse gear when going for fifth gear....OUCH!!! I first hit reverse with 327 miles on my vette, my car is right now at a dealer getting premium care with a GM Engineer assisting in my repairs. I know your pain. Please email me if you want the FACTS about this situation. I will gladly help in any way I can!!!
Just received the STEEL shift fork from D & D Performance. Cost was $49.00 plus $8.00 shipping and handling. It is a substantial piece.
Called the dealer and made an appointment for next week. They will work on it while I am away.
Mine acts up much more before it warms up to normal operating temps. Once warmed up, it does not give me much trouble. However, I do pull pretty hard into 4th compared to the other gears because otherwise it will pop out. I have not had any grinding lately going into 4th because I am not shifting hard at high rpms.
Btw, this shift fork is a Viper part. They use the same trans (Tremec T-56), but with some beefier parts to handle the torque.
Even with this problem, I would stick with the Vette. :yesnod:
