The smoke top is always hot when it is in the sun, I would park it in some shade before talking it off, The few times I took mine off in the sun I just manned up and did it knowing it will be hot as heck.

The Lexan top will get very hot sitting out in the sun and you'd have to expect the latches to get hot too. The solid insert you are using doesn't cover the latches so makes sense they would still get hot.
