Had new rear tires mounted yesterday. All sensors were working fine before the tires were mounted. Immediately leaving the garage the right rear wheel did not post any tire pressure on the display and the display shows Rxxx for that wheel even though the air pressure is ok. I suspect the tech broke the sensor when mounting the tire or should I wait until I go through the procedure for resetting the sensors?

I had 4 new Michelin Pilot Sport tires mounted and road force balanced at the GM dealer. The tech came to me and told me one of my sensors was not registering. I said they were working when I came in.
Saw the Service Manager. The GM manual says to let the air out of the tire then remove the top of the sensor housing and let the sensor slide into the tire before trying to remove the tire from the rim. The tech said he didn't do that, just let the air out and broke the bead and removed the tire.
I was in the SMs office and saw a phone on his desk. Said I could throw the phone on the floor with some force and the phone MIGHT be OK or it might not.
End of discussion.
They replaced the $130 list price sensor at no charge.
I bet your tech did not remove the sensor as described above and the shock of breaking the bead made the sensor toast.
Get him to replace the sensor at no cost pronto.

If the sensor was working fine before the tire install, I would say chances are the tech damaged it. You can easily try reprogramming if you want, but I would certainly go back to the shop and say there is a problem and you want it addressed.

Sounds like the broke one to me?

I have had my tires replaced on the same thinspokes probably at least 6 times each the past 14 years and Discount Tire never removed the sensors first (and no damage). Last 3 sets of tires were Michelin AS/ZPs. Guess it depends on the machine/tech?
Before doing anything check and reset because if it was broken it would be known immediately plus the tech should have the respect to tell you and the shop to cover a new sensors for you.
If the reset doesn't work I recommend you go back and ask them to recheck the sensor for you and that will answer your question for you.
It is soooo easy to prevent damage to wheel sensors...not like Corvette is the only car out there with them. I start to fume when tech damages them there is no good reason for that. I would go back and have them replace it.
Things get broke and things happen at any shop. The way the shop handles the problem is what really matters. I had a set of new tires mounted on my C5 at our Chevy Dealer not long ago. When paying the bill saw there was a TP sensor listed on it. In the price column the was a N/C. I asked the service writer about it he said the tech damaged it and we replaced it at no charge. That speaks volumes for the dealer and the tech in My book.

The tech at a national tire chain broke one of mine. Being a long time customer, they replaced it. The shop will write it off to insurance and it's a great PR for them. Insist on a replacement. You might print out this page and show it to them so they see what other service providers did. Good luck.
Designer Imagines A Corvette That Looks More Like a Corvette Than the Corvette
