Anyone know a good auto electrician specializing in Vettes in SF Peninsula or nearby? Or a trustworthy Chevy dealer? Or an auto shrink?
My battery drained itself on a visit to Redding in 102 degree heat. Installed a new battery, which restored cranking speed but it acted fuel starved and the instrument panel wouldn't light up. It caught and chugged like it was missing a few plug wires, then died. A few minutes later everything lit up, started and ran fine except check engine light was on. Shut it off and repeated all the above a couple times before I finally decided to make a run for it and drive home while it was in the mood. I ran 3 hours non-stop and got back without a hitch. I hoped the cool coast weather would put it in a better mood, but it's still showing the same symptoms. DIC variously shows 'low voltage,' 'charging system,' 'active handling fault' and other random messages when it won't start. When it decides to run the check engine light is out now. Any suggestions?
Thanks,
SLinkyv

Check with Gary at West Coast Corvettes in Burlingame.
I couldn't pull any codes. It started once then went to previous symptoms. DIC showed low voltage, charge sys fault, service active handling, svc traction sys, svc ride control, reduced engine power. I could not reset anything to get odometer
Post ALL your codes including the H or C or HC that follows each 5 character code. If you have any Unnnn codes then list the sensor under which the Unnnn code appears. For example 28-TCS U1016.
The same Unnnn codes can appear under multiple sensors and it is helpful to know which sensor the Unnnn code is associated with.

Take off your right front wheel, plastic fender cover, and check under the battery holder for corrosion. These batteries have been known to leak and drip onto the wires (and PCM) underneath.just something simple to check while the car is parked. Good luck!

Great call. Towed the car to West Coast Corvette in Burlingame. Gary sussed it out in no time. He replaced the ignition switch and key cylinder. Problem solved. He said he's only seen this a couple other times. The cylinder was loose and shorting out on the contacts.
I doubt any dealer could have figured this out as quickly. I would highly recommend this shop.
