Default Decibel Level and track events

Hey,

I am considering going to Friday at the Track at Summit Point, WV soon but one of the restrictions is that cars may not exceed 98 dbs. Does anyone have experience with this issue? Anyone every been pulled off the track or black flagged? I'm really surprised that they have this.

My car is a 2001 z06 with vararam, LG long tubes without cats, and a corsa extreme. It's a pretty loud ****.

I just don't want to drive all the way there and get pulled of the track in five minutes - waste of time and money.

I'm hoping I'm just being paranoid...didnt think loud corvettes at race tracks would be an issue here in the good ole U,S, of A.

Lots of experience with this and yes, I've been black flagged and pulled off the track more than once. Laguna Seca is 90 db and most tracks are 103 db. I can make the 103 with my Super Traps in, but 90 db is out of the question. I'm running a Lingenfelter LS6 with long tubes, catless, and Borla Stingers. My buddy is running the Corsas and he can make the 103 with longtubes and catless, but just barely. Good Luck.

Exactly! Not pretty, but they let you stay on the track.

Anyone else have any experience or opinions on my setup. Appears Summit measures from 50 feet on the main straight by the tower. I suppose I could just let off a tad to play it safe but isn't that also kind of obvious or would draw more attention to the fact?

I'm quite surprised this is an issue at race tracks.

Perhaps I should go back to stock TIs. I can't imagine that just headers and an intake through stock TI exhaust would put you over.

I ran a track day at Portland Int'l Raceway at the beginning on the month on a Monday. That day of the week has a 90dB noise limit It has that limit due to a negotiation with the City of Portland (the property owners) and area homeowners. Most new high performance cars with stock exhaust can beat that.

The location of the mike was pointed out to me and I simply installed a set of turn-downs that I angled away from the mike location. My '87 (headers, true duals and race mufflers) has been recorded at 98 dB at WOT in 3rd gear. Those turn-downs did the job as I never got flagged.

Once people start building homes near tracks, the people living there gripe about the noise. If real estate agents don't disclose the fact that there will be noise from events, those homeowners should have done their own investigation. It's no different than people buying a house near an airport and then complain about the noise from planes taking off...

I called today and they said it is actually 103db limit. Pretty high but I still think I'll barely make it. I probably should just get some TIs with turndowns to throw on when I hit the track...

Anyone else have an opinion on my 01Z with vararam, catless LGs, and corsa extreme hitting the 103db limit at Summit Point?

Where in the world did you get those exhaust contraptions?
The db limit is why Ive never gone to laguna seca or my local autox, and stay to willow springs and chuckwalla since Ive never been hassled

Super Traps have been around a long time. They come with about 12 or 15 disks you can use to regulate the sound output. The more disks you use the louder you are, but the better the car breaths. Fewer disks mean a quieter exhaust and more restriction. Don't remember where I got this set, but google it and they come up all over the place.

I dunno how strict friday at the track is on the Db level but my guess is its a polite suggestion rather than a strict rule. I use to run my Trans Am at the drift nirvana events at Summit Point with open headers and never had any issue... it was ear bleeding loud. Done a few family days and open track days there as well with it and never had an issue. My Vette has Bassani straight pipes and I havent had a problem so far with it. I say take it and let her eat. If they kick you out demand your money back but i doubt youll have that problem.
