Well, I've been looking at some C5's, and I'm just wondering, ballpark, what some may be worth paying for. In the past, I overpaid for a C4, by not being informed, so I'm just trying to figure out ballpark amounts.
A lot of the dealerships here are asking upwards of 20k for 2000 and up year C5's, with varying miles between 30k and 90k. Whats the usual go for these beasts? Sorry if my question is too vague.
Last fall I paid 16.5K for a 2001 Convertible with 58K miles in good, totally stock condition in Minnesota. It did need tires but had most options including magnesiem wheels. It was a private party.
Dealer prices are going to be higher than a private sale. What exactly are you looking for, ie; year, base model or fully optioned, FRC, Z06, coupe, convertible? Factory stock or modded?
You will have a better chance of getting the history of the car and the maintenance records from a private seller.
The main thing is to be patient and have any prospective car inspected by a qualified third party. It costs around $300 for an inspection and it can save $$$ down the line.
DO NOT put down a deposit without having either yourself or someone else sight the vehicle. There are plenty of scams out there.
C5's, $9k - $40k . There really is a huge range. The majority are probably in the $14-$24K range. A deal is where you find it, dealer or private party. Decide what you want, body style, color, options and then start digging. I have seen some really good deals right here in the classifieds and they can give you some insight to pricing. I also used auto trader as a source and ultimately found my car through them. And it was a dealer no less.
i have had my eye on a '97, red, coupe, black interior, manual. listed at 10K. they didn't list miles, so i wonder if they are high. but from pics, car looks in good shape.
most that i've seen are usually 13K and up....

Not knowing the car you are talking about, I recently saw a 2004 black Vert at under $20K with 40K miles, look hard and often!
The '01 - '04 is generally the more sought after C5 due to the fixes GM made on many problems of the '97 - '00 cars (not that they were major like engine or drive train). I recommend sticking as close to KBB as possible. I got a '01 "garage queen" with 57K miles for $17,600. I had been watching the car since the guy first asked $20,500. KBB was $17,700.
Don't let your emotions rule and you will get a good one.
