Thanks for the suggestion, but I had a power antenna on my 69 camaro that didn't last long and since I do track the car I want to keep it as light as possible.
Had decent reception, but the wind catching it would make it bend and look terrible when I arrived at my destination. To combat this problem I purchased "The Stubby" antenna which is a very low profile antenna. Looks much better, no bending, and reception was not affected. Keep in mind however I live in the Dallas Fort Worth area so station signals are strong.
When I get a chance I'll snap a picture with it installed.
It works fine for me. It seems about the same as the original long one for reception, but I really haven't been on a long trip to test it out completely at long distances. It does work great for the stations around here up to about 50 miles that I listen to.

I've got a couple of short antenna's & I like their looks but IMO it depends where you live & how far are you from the signal. When I'm on a long road trip I like to use CD's.
I have one like Toque not sure if its the same brand here in the chicago area dont work that well and on road trips your going to need some CD's.........

THe FM radio wave is about three feet high, that is why most car antenna are that length, the antenna needs to match the size of the wave to capture the signal.
To attempt the same results with a shorter antenna, wire is wrapped to have enough length to simulate a three foot straight wire . Obviously a trade off.
I favor a power antenna, but only the length matters.
I bought one from BitViper on the forum back in '07 I think. It's in a drawer in my tool box because I deleted the antennae when I had new fenders made.
It's a really nice antennae. If you want one I would be more than happy to mail it off to you tomorrow. Just let me know. Also maybe search BitViper antennae on google... Might find better pictures than this one I posted. I don't have any pics that really show it up close... I'll keep looking though.
Here's a closer pic.
