I had Kooks LT Headers, HF Cats and X-Pipe installed this past week on my '03. I already had the Borla Stinger catback installed several months ago. I picked up the car from the tuner/installer this past Thursday, but didn't get a chance to really drive it anywhere until Sunday.
On Sunday I got a "Check Engine Light", so I immediately pulled onto the shoulder of the road, popped the bonnet (hood) and sure enough the engine was still there!
Today I cleared the DIC codes and took it for a drive (approximately 50-60 miles). When I returned home I had "NO CODES" and no "Check Engine Light".
I am keeping my fingers crossed and hoping that the "Check Engine Light" was due to an emissions issue relating to the new exhaust system.
One of those 'history' codes might have helped. Once you clear them they truly history. If it happens again write all the codes down, then maybe we'll have something to work with
Anytime you pull codes with the engine off you are extremely unlikely to see C codes. That's because most of the sensors function when the engine is running and not when the engine is off. Once the engine is shut off the C codes get converted to H codes. There are a few exceptions such as the Column Lock System. H codes are extremely helpful in determining what has happened and should NOT be discounted solely because they are history.
You can pull codes with the engine running. You need to first use the reset key to clear any messages showing on the DIC. Then use the normal procedure to retrieve the codes.
Next time you get a CEL light, pull the codes BEFORE you shut off the engine. You should then see the C codes. Turn off the engine and pull the codes again and you will see that the C codes are now H codes.
Thank you. Will do. I love this forum. You guys are most helpful.
Went for cruise today and once again got the CEL. Left the engine running when I got home and pulled the codes. There are two codes: 10PCM P0420 H C & P0430 H C
According to my list of codes, they both mean "Catalyst System Low Efficiency"
This is probably due to the HF Cats that were installed two weeks ago.
Any advice on what needs to be done so that I do not get the CEL? It's very distracting.
I know that Google is my friend, so I have checked the archives and found that I need to go back to my turner and have him do an edit on the O2 sensors. Otherwise, the CEL will reappear every 50 miles or 80km.

The suggestion is:
Go to your tuner and have him turn OFF the rear O2 Sensor's that will solve the CEL - "OR"
You are correct that it will keep coming back and that it is because you have H/F Cats now and the rear O2's monitor after the cats or behind them - thus you are getting your codes!
