I have a sagging head liner in a spot about the size of a dollar bill and think it time to get it replaced. I thought I would try a little DIY but wanted to know if anyone has attempted this and what are the steps to fix it. This is on a coupe targa top.
I saw a thread a while back on DYI. On this small of a top I wouldn't think it would cost very much at an uphostery shop to have it done. I have had a couple done over the yrs on other vehicles for around 100.00. Good luck, gooogle search may turn up something.

How do you remove the headliner? It seems to be attached to matting material/board and the board is attached/glued to targa top. Looks like pulling it off could damage the board.

That is what i found as well. I pulled it loose enough to reglue but it didn't stay so i took mine to an upholstery shop and had it done for 85 bucks.
I bought new 1/2 foam padding and a faux leather material at a fabric store for $18. A can of 3m super adhesive was about $25. Pulled out the entire pad and liner and made a template for the new pad. Cut the liner about 1 1/2" oversize and trim as needed. One thing I discovered is that you can tuck the edges along the sides and front but not the back of the lid. For the cost, I am very happy with the results. I should add that I used the .doc in Vetteman Jack's above thread.
I did it in my el camino, went to the store and bought some new headliner and got some loctite spray glue, then trimmed to fit. I originally used medium hold but that didnt last very long so I went back with the permanent spray glue and its held up for several years now.
Here are the steps I took, got a nice satin black fab, very tight weave, from Walmart. Cut an oversized pattern using the shape of the opening. Used a plastic 6" mud knife to break loose the old headliner. Take your time, you can preserve the foam headliner backing and expense. While doing the headliner, started to remove the cheap, crappy, falling apart fabric from the molded foam. Take your time! Next steps to follow...
