Default Sound deadener in rear wheel well liner

When I removed my rear wheel well liners I found each already had foam rubber sound deadening glued to the back side. Did it come from the factory like that or did a PO add it?

PO added it. I recently added some deadener to mine.

I agree. It was added. I did it to mine too.

I also stuffed loose bubble wrap in the storage wells around my jack, compressor and other accessories. I figure it should also help with sound deadening and will come in handy to kneel on if I ever need to plug a flat tire.

OK thanks! I'll add some Frost King to the wheel well & button it back up.

My 2001 had foam insulation from the factory on the top side of the rear wheel liners.

Adding Frost-King is a waste of time in that area.

I added Frost King to the upper & forward wheel well area (directly on the body) and it made no difference I could detect. The foam insulation did look factory to me.

Mine has some foam attached to the liners also - not much but a little bit. If it were me, I'd add some sound deadening material under the carpeting in the car.

I did -- About a year ago I installed vibration dampener and sound deadener from Second Skin Audio under the carpets front & back including both doors with marginal results. I think all I really accomplished was adding about 75 pounds weight.

I really want to do something about the small rattles I get in the trunk at certain RPMs since the headers and exhaust.. One of these days I'll get around to it.

After hearing all the raves here, about the "Frost King mod", I added a bunch of it to my '01. No perceptible difference.

Frost King might help as a thermal barrier, but almost nothing as a sound barrier.

Frost king has no density, duct tape would be a better sound deadener. It does however do what is is designed to do and thermally insulate.

Does adding insulation above the rear wheel liners make a difference?
I did the frost king a few years ago, spent all day taking my car apart and putting it back together. I even had a DB meter to test the difference. No measurable difference. I felt I wasted my time and $$.

I don't think adding sound insulation above the wheel well liners is worth the effort. You MAY achieve some improvement following JETZ' example above. Results/opinions vary.

I put mass loaded vinyl with closed cell foam, plus viscoelastic damping material over the rear wheel wells. It made a tiny difference. You're fighting sound that's transmitted through the body (not so much radiated from the tires) at that point...
