ok multiple cars, I gotcha... I only have 2 and yeah it does suck with 2 inspections and registrations every single year... I'm curious to see how it's going to work out next year when we only have 1 sticker for both things... supposedly it's to save money but I bet you they will end up charging us more for a "convenience fee"
There won't be any change in the combined cost of inspection plus registration renewal for vehicle owners. When the new scheme goes into effect on March 1st of next year, you'll pay a little less when your vehicle is inspected but you'll make up the difference when you pay for your registration renewal, so you're not going to see any savings (but you won't see any increased cost either). Only the state is going to see some savings from not having to issue the inspection stickers.
Inspection cost is supposed to be the same across the state. It's a state fee, not local. Registration can vary, but inspection fees should not.
My kiddo pays about $18 in Lubbock.

Yet another thing to have to take to the registration place.

They wouldn't pass my c5 because they "couldn't see the mufflers."

You should get a piece of paper that says your vehicle passed inspection (just as you get now), but there should also be a record in the state's database of motor vehicles indicating that your vehicle passed inspection. The paper record is simply a backup to the electronic record, so you can take it along with you if you want but it shouldn't be necessary (but I'm taking it just in case).
