Hey there. Went for a cruise today and stopped to do a little shopping at the local handymans store. I got back the the car to leave, started the car, adjusted seat and tunes, etc. put the carin drive and the car stalled. Restarted, was a little puzzled, put it in gear and it quit again. Pulled it in neutral, revved it a bit, sounded good, in gear, rolls about 3 feet and dies again. Put it in reverse to get back in the parking spot and did not quit. Back in drive again and it drove as normal. Any ideas. I pulled codes and only have a magnetic steering code but no others. I could hear the fuel pump running. The temp outside was only 76 so I wouldn't think vapor lock. It ran fine for the next 80 miles and hasn't quit since. Any ideas would be great. Thanks all
The column lock must have been addressed before I got the car because the steering wheel doesn't lock with the key out. I didn't get any messages on the DIC. Does the original column lock bypass go bad over time? Thanks
Well I spent the magority of the day researching and really didn't come up with much more than I already knew. Most posts say that the message comes up with either the service cl or pull key. The only other thing I read was possibly the transistor or resister in the key. I ordered the lmc5 to at least try. It won't hurt. Any other help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks all
Mine does that occasionally as well. It's the column lock fuel cutoff at 2mph
I've had something similar happen to mine after having a CLB (not an LMC5) installed for several years. I got the fuel cut off at 2mph, and couldn't drive it, but I also got the Column Lock message on my DIC. Turned out my battery was getting low, and I haven't had the issue (it happened only that one time) since replacing the battery. After replacing the battery, I did have the fuel cut off changed from 2mph to 256mph... Typical change that I read about on here...
A local tuner with HP Tuner or similar LSx tuning software can remove the 2 MPH fuel cut off that GM programmed as part of the recall. If you already have a tune on the car, the tuner can add this work to the tune by simply changing the cut off to a ridiculously high number that you would never achieve, like 250 MPH. If you do not have a tune on the car then it would be a good time to sort out any bolt-on modifications you wish to perform, and then have the tuner not only increase the fuel cut off point but also tune for your mods.
This can alleviate some of the issues resultant from the column lock syndrome, since many have columns that are unlocked but may not necessarily have aftermarket CLBs. In many cases like this if you had a tuner increase the MPH fuel cut off point you would subsequently be driving around with a DIC constantly lit up like a Christmas tree warning you to service the column lock until you install an aftermarket CLB.
