I have a problem with the Z06 that I didn't have with my 2000 six-speed coupe. I don't seem to get the shift light warning on the HUD in time to shift before hitting the limiter now.
I realize this car is revving faster than the 2000 was, but it seems like the light should come on sooner?
Also, I - and a friend - both have a problem with our tachs keeping up. We have both tested the cars, and if you are lightly throttling the car up to red-line, the rev-limiter will come on right at red-line on the tach.
HOWEVER, under WOT, the tach seems to lag behind and you hit the rev-limiter before the tach show's red-line.
I only use the HUD for MPH. But there is a SHIFT light that comes on when you near redline. I DID use that for my 2000 coupe, because it came on early enough that it was useful.
With the Z06, it doesn't come on early enough in 1st and 2nd gear and I still hit the limiter!
I don't use the Shift light on the HUD either. In fact I don't use the HUD much at all. I did see it come on once after someone on the forum mentioned it.
My tach lagged terribly when the car was new. But as the car broke in, so did the tach. Works fine now and has since about 1000 miles on the car.
I'm gonna have to go back to the tach I guess. I always liked just using the HUD shift light on my 2000 coupe. I didn't have to take my eye off the road (err, track that is...) and could concentrate on my surroundings more.
Unlike the old 5.0's that I was used to before, which began to fall off in hp LONG BEFORE the rev-limiter would kick in, the C5's (LS-1 AND LS-6) both pull hard straight to the limiter. I need to program another 200 rpms into my CPU.
However, I have also been seeing my TACH lag in lower gears, so even IT isn't doing the job properly for me. I'm going to have to start experimenting and seeing what the highest rpm (INDICATED) I can shift at in each gear.
Someone in this thread posted some good starting points to experiment with...
Or, I suppose I could buy a nice aftermarket tach with a shift light. Anyone have any suggestions?

That's STRANGE. The tach shouldn't break in, but perhaps the computer learns something? I have almost three times your mileage though, and so does my friend...
