Grab a cold one and read this. This is a 5 year project build starting with an LS2 block, 4 inch crank and L92/LS3 heads. It was the first in the country and is well chronicled from the beginning to refurbishing into a 427. Always mild. The 403 made 530 and the 427 made 577/530 at the wheels.
I too really like to see all the different builds and what parts people are using. Not to mention seeing what HP they are making. What kind of costs are you guys looking at for these builds? Is it cheaper to accumulate on your own, or buy a shortblock/longblock assembly from TSP/scoggin dickey or whoever? I am am starting to save for a forged block and want some more cubic inches, 427 preferred.
WKMCD did you ever give the complete cam specs in that post? I read it recently and don't remember seeing it anywhere. Your motor makes amazing power for something that is not an all out build. I really like it.

We tried a lot of cams but the best for the 403 build was a 230-240 - 111 lsa with .660 lift on both sides. The best on the 427 was a 234-242 with .643 lift, 113+2 lsa. Small cams for the displacement. Scaled to a 346 build, they would be in the 224 or smaller range.
My one requirement of the cams were excellent drivability. Great average power was a by-product of having the right people involved.
The cam will lope a little bit driving through the pits at slow speeds in second gear. Other than that, it seems fine even with the ultra light flywheel/clutch set up that I have on it.
