Depends on your power level and how much traction you want compared to ride comfort and tire life.
I have Nitto N555r rear tires and like them a lot. They have a reasonable amount of traction (usually hold at 500+hp, but I can spin them if I try), handle well, and can still be driven in the rain, but they only last 6K miles or so. Nitto NT05r tires are very similar. Mickey Thompson ET Streets are said to have better traction than the Nittos, at the expense of handling. All good choices IMO.
? on street tires?
Street tires glaze over and get worse.
24 psi makes a huge difference. My car sticks a lot better, but it is a lot harder on tire life.
On the strip if I didn't warm my street tires up I could not hook up and would just sit there and spin. I have never heard of street tires glazing over after a burnout.

I got chewed out at the strip for spinning my street tires. Had a half dozen people explain rather rudely how incorrect I was.
There are always exceptions, each tire is different and sometimes it does help.
But in most case it just wears down your tires.
Back in the day when I raced, everyone did some kind of burnout and if I didn't with my BFG T/As I would just sit there and spin when the light changed. Perhaps they are referring to burnouts with all season tires. I am just going by my own experience. I could not hook up with cold tires.
Ya... 15 years ago I would burnout my bfg's. But I think the tires have changed. I was running Cooper Cobras. about 2 years ago and they hated to get spun hard. You just chirped them once to get the dirt off. You could actually see a shine on the tire if you spun them very long and they were a lot slicker for a few days of normal driving.
I have seen newer BFG's do the same thing. I trashed a pair of them that came on my vette. They were to small and looked funny so I just tore them to shreds.
