as i said in earlier thread i buy gas once a year in october . i'm currently trying to run last years gas out and was going to add sta-bil this year . i see posts about techtron and wondered if i can also add it or if it would be of no benefit or worse if it would be harmful . would you add both to your car or just sta-bil ?? has any one added both ?? yes , i know i should drive more , thanks . . .peace.......ps. remember i am OLD , be kind , please .
I have the same issue...not with my Vette...but one of my other collector cars.
I always make sure I burn at least 3/4 tank over the summer then top it off with fresh gas in the fall right before storage. I have never used stabil in it. I have used techron just a couple of times. Car is 25 years old. No issues.
For your car, given that it is a C5 with known fuel sending unit issues, I would put the techron in it right before you fill the tank in the fall. I wouldn't bother with stabil.

I always put Techron in the fuel, not just for storage but every couple of tank fills. This is on my C5, which by the way I will drive on a nice dry day in the winter. Now on my old C3, I used to use Stabil.

I have added both Techron and Sta-Bil to my car as I put it away for the winter. Have not had any problems at all with doing that. IMO, it will depend on how long you will be storing your car as to whether or not you need to add Sta-Bil - but I've found that using it doesn't cause any negative effects.
1989 Olds Cutlass Calais International Series. One of 200 built with HO Quad-4 and 5-spd. Engine did not become an RPO until 1990.
It has 22k miles on it now. Most miles came in first two years I had it. Most years since it has been a struggle to burn a tank of gas through it each summer.
FWIW, I have never used gas additives in my '02 C5. I only buy Chevron or Texaco gas (both say they contain Techron) and when I stop driving the car for the winter months, I just hook up a battery tender and toss some sheets over the car. I never had a problem starting the car and driving it during that time. If there's a nice dry day. I will take the car out for 20-30 minutes. By running the engine and driving it, that removes condensation and moisture from the exhaust system and the engine.
My '87 autocross car gets Chevron or Texaco and I do the same with it. No additives, drive it maybe once a month. Never a starting/running problem due to gas.
I do make sure that both cars have a full tank of gas so there's not a whole lot of room in the tank for any condensation to form.
Starting is not a problem with stale gas. It's the compounds that form through oxidation and condensation. They can gum up the works. Ethanol has a shorter shelf life than pure gasoline so using ethanol free gas during storage is not a bad idea.
