Greetings, would appreciate some advice on the following:
2001 C5 w/20,000 miles. Dealer indicated transmission flush and differential service recommended.
(Have noticed no leaks, etc on garage floor)
Wise to proceed?
Thanks!
That is a long span in years since the car was first filled with the respective fluids, but the mileage is well short of any of the recommended change frequencies.
You will see different opinions on this.
I would change the trans fluid and filter (not flush it) and change the differential fluid as
well.
A transmission fluid change with filter, assuming a stock transmission pan will actually change about half of the fluid in the transmission. The other half is in the torque converter and other works and does not come out unless a flush is done.
Keep in mind that the Factory service Manual admonishes that high power settings should not be used for several hundred miles after changing differential fluid.
I had these fluids changed on my 01 with AT in June and it ran $320, including taxes. I did not have the AT fluid flushed!
Car is 13 years old and I did it for peace of mind.
