On Saturday I went with a buddy to look at a '98 6sp with 63k ( he rolled his 93 ruby a few weeks back and wants another) Anyway the car is clean appears to be nicely maintained and he can buy it for 13300. My problem is the oil pressure never got above 22-23 psi no matter how high it revved and at idle stayed right around 10psi. He didn't buy it, but the dealer called today and said they changed the sending unit and oil and it now runs around 30psi. He wants to go pick it up Wednesday so, does that sound like a sending unit problem or something with the motor itself? I am still skeptical at 30psi. Thanks for any ideas.
He has had many vettes over the years but he is doing all the wrong things, buying from a wholesale dealer, only the second one he has test driven, no warranty ( per the dealer he is out of state so they can't) and clearly not thinking. He did hit his head in the rollover so maybe that explains it. I tried to sway him but he is on a mission. Thanks for your help guys if this turns to a horror story I will let you know.
40psi is about average when cruising down the road, a little less maybe a little more. When I accelerarte hard it bumps up to 55-60psi then drops back down to 35-40ish. At idle with a fresh oil change it's 30psi. It has been as low as 23-25psi at idle with oil that's needing to be changed.
If he only sees 30 psi at high rpms with new oil....run away.
Oh my mileage is in excess of 150,000 miles...hard miles.

I wouldn't walk away from that one. I would RUN.....
There have been many threads here on oil pressure sensors failing and in every case I can remember, the pressure pegs out at a max value. I would not consider that one unless he has a trusted mechanic look at it and verify that all is good or at a minimum tell him what he may be getting himself into.
