Default Blackwing intake

Just got my 2004 last month. It has a Blackwing air intake. Bluish colored air filter. No experience with Blackwing, I am guessing it is rechargeable like a K&N? If so, where is the best place to get a kit? And yes, I am sure I could Google all this, but I think I trust this forum more than a manufacturers website. Thanks in advance.

Congrats on the new purchase. I bought my 2003 back in July, it also has the Blackwing intake. I found the cleaning and oil kit on Amazon.

Yes. Medium spiral gray metallic.... I was a little concerned about the color at first (usually buy white vehicles), but I'm loving it now. Awesome shine when the sun hits it.

The filter is rechargeable and is a very good one for the C5. As mentioned, cleaning/oiling kits can be found on Amazon or e-bay.

I have a Blackwing that also came on my car and I will pass along a tip I got here on the forum a long time ago.
The member is a racer that learned the method from another racer. Use Simple Green to gently wash the filter from the inside out, then get a spray bottle and dilute mineral oil with some regular rubbing alcohol. Spray the filter while it is still wet ,it helps the oil disperse. I stuff some paper towels on the inside and let it sit on a heat vent over night. Excess oil is absorbed and it works great. You spend a lot of money for what is most likely an aerosol can of mineral oil and just pay the extra money for the name and fancy can!
By the way the blacking works great! With just the Blackwing and stock exhaust back to Corsa touring mufflers,I got as low as a 13.08 @ 110.23 at Gateway International on a test and tune night !!

K&N cleaner will work but make it red... Donaldson has their own cleaner that will keep it blue if you care about the color.

Wow, a number of MSG owners in this thread! I bought an 03 MSG coupe in October, and it also has a blackwing intake. I read some older posts that the filter is designed to never need to be cleaned. I don't know how I feel about that, but has anyone else heard of that?

OP, can you post a link to the kit you bought?
