I know some stuff, like there is no maf screen, the valves are nitrogen filled, and the cam it bigger, air box too, I was just curious about the exact specs...oh yeah and no pup cats. I think the rear shocks are revalved to give it more squat,,but I already put on some Bilsteins..just curious...Andy bought an 02 after I bought my 01 and we were comparing notes.
Re: Differences between 01's and 02's? (Shinobi'sZ)
'01->'02:
+20hp (more torque)
clutch improvements
MAF sensor improvement
improved traction performance
less vehicle mass
HUD-standard
cast aluminum front stabilizer links vs rolled rod steel
cast vs forged aluminum wheels
exterior color addition
I can't take credit for this, but I would like to. I considered the same thing a while back. Luckily, somebody queried on the forum and somebody posted the differences. I do not know how to post it so I will post the address, and somebody nice like you will post it here for everybody. http://forums.corvetteforum.com/zerothread?id=328577
Shinobi: I sure like the color scheme on your vette. I am also following closely your progress with the procharger. Good luck, I think that you have your work cut out for you. I am considering the same thing, but I will leave the ground work and smart thinking for somebody else. Keep us posted. I used to live in Stockton many moons ago ( light years, maybe? ) on north Inman street, maybe and caddy there somewhere and then go swimming somewhere around the golf course where there were navs Ships in mothball. Maybe about 55 or so. God, that hurt to say that. Good luck on the 2001Z06 versus 2002Z06 differences. After looking at that thread, I went and bought a 2002 Quicksilver Z06. More differences than I thought.

Thanks for the thread guys. This is the one Andy was telling me about. I looked over the refinements...and none of them will matter to me. The shocks I have already taken care of. There is no change to the heads, the cam whether it be the 01,02,03 will not make a difference. The real difference according to the article, for power, was getting rid of the pup cats, not only did it reduce some back pressure it reduced some weight. My new Stainless long tubes should resolve that whole issue. No maf screen and cut hole in the air box. There were no changes to the head or motor internals, other than putting a coating on the skirts to the pistons. I guess the bottom line is, is that it is really hard to improve upon perfection. Now if it only would have come with a 427, I would not have to be putting on the S/C. But judging from LAPD's latest tune with a P1SC, I am glad it did not come with a 427! This car has already taken far less than my coupe (still dearly missed) to get to where I want it. I had to do a lot of suspension work and motor work to my coupe. This car feels so good, I have even debated putting on the S/C. When I do put on the S/C I want a conservative tune and hope to only get 500 RWHP and at least get 470 RWTQ..anything more than that,,and it is just wasted without drag radials all the time. Traction is just too big of an issue. I gotta get my black stripe back too!
Thanks Again you guys!
Re: Differences between 01's and 02's? (Shinobi'sZ)
Here's the run down...
'02 ZO6 Changes
Deleted Pre-Cats
New Cats - Provides less back pressure and opportunity to increase induction
New Air-Filter Assy. - Allows higher air volume for induction system
New MAF Sensor - Screen removed to increase air induction
New Cam - Higher lift on intake and exhaust valves. .525 to .551 on intake and from .525 to .547 on exhaust. Once again, better induction.
New Valves - Hollow stem, sodium/potassium filled to make valves lighter to avoid floating at high RPM.
New Valve Springs - Stiffer springs to accomodate a positive open/close action with the lighter valves.
New Oil Ring - Higher tension oil ring from 9lb. to 13 lb. Fixes the oil consumption problem caused by high RPM, low load piston flutter.
New Piston - Changed to have reduced piston to bore clearance and skirts coated with anti-friction polymer. Reduces 'cold piston knock' and reduces scuffing caused from the tighter tolerance between piston and cylinder wall.
New Clutch - Pressure plate clamp load increased from 2315 lbs. to 2475 lbs. (which also causes a stiffer pedal). Clutch disk damper spring rate increased and a higher grade of steel used for the springs. Hub thickness increased by 20%. (from 5mm to 6mm increase in thickness)
HUD Head Up Display
New Wheels - Lighter by 1.5 lbs. (in total for all 4) Maintains the strength of 100% forged wheels by using new (cast-spun) technology.
New Brake Pads - More aggresive material to increase stopping friction but may increase noise and dust while decreasing rotor life (at least under aggressive braking)
New Color - Electron Blue
Rear Shock Valving - Reduced "mid-velocity" stiffness (damping) that reduces wheel hop and chop. Increased stiffness (damping) in "low-velocity" range that re-casptures body control lost with "mid-velocity" changes. Net result is: less wheel hop and better ride comfort with no loss of handling (especially with corner exit acceleration)
New Front & Rear Stabilizer Links - Reduce weight. (no performance change)
405 HP Badging
