Not hurt at all! That's just my opinion much like yours regarding Sears....where you butthurt by a Redtop in the past? For the record, I have nothing against Sears batteries because I have no experiance with them.
I have a 10+ year old yellow top, a 4-5year old red and a 4 month old red, all performing with no problems. The 10 year old still starts no problem but I haven't really worked it to see how much reserve is actualy left.
My opinion is whatever you choose just make sure its AGM (Sears sells these too) and I wouldn't talk too much trash about Optima unless you really have the experiance to back it up. In my experiance, if you treat them well they will more then offset the increased cost over time.
I had a yellow top for over 10 years that worked great. But I heard Optima changed their manufacturing location and process a few years ago with a noticeable drop in quality. I think that's why you have so many people on complete opposite ends of the Optima argument.
I'll be curious how your new red top does over the next 2-3 years. They are a pricey battery that is worth the cost if they perform like they have in the past. But not worth it if they are going to die just as quickly as any other battery.
if you have researched about the column lock issue it is normally because of the Battery with less than 120 Reserve Crank Power. Since the C5 has a lot of Bells and Whistles it has to have enough to keep the column lock working. So 135 with the Diehard sounds good.
