Ok guys, so a few weeks ago I installed my new mgw shifter and was amazed at the improvement it made over the b&m the previous owner had in it. But after driving the car more I started to notice a grind on the 1-2 shift during spirited driving. At first I thought it could be me not being used to the shifter, but after deliberately shifting and making sure the clutch was fully disengaged it still will grind on a hard 1-2 shift at high rpm. During normal driving it is fine, and on a 3-2 downshift it goes in without a fuss. If I granny shift it into 2nd at high rpm it seems to lessen/eliminate the grinding issue. It won't lock me out of 2nd, just grinds on the way in. Any ideas?? I've done some searching and it could be a few different things. I've heard possibly the synchro/shift fork. Or possibly a blocker ring. Just looking for some more insight before I drop the trans and have it rebuilt. Any insight would be appreciated!
I talked to George over at mgw. He said if it's grinding whole going in gear it's probably trans related. I installed the shifter exactly how the instructions called for to the T, so who knows. Might try to pull and reinstall it first. Start with the simple things right?
