So I'm considering gloss black power coat for my classics. I dont mind polishing them and ever time I walk out the door and see this I want to stay polished, but I have always liked black wheels. Not sure I do on the EB though.
The first set of aftermarket wheels I had, on my C-5, was a set of CCW Classics, with black powder coated centers. I think they looked a lot better than "all black" wheels.
There were two things that caused me to sell them. One, I don't know if CCW has made changes to the outer barrels they use with the 17" front C-5 wheels, but back then, in 2002, they wouldn't accept the TPMS in the valve stem hole. They epoxied the sensors into the "drop" of the rim, and mine wouldn't stay put. The short sidewall tires don't mount/dismount easily, so it became a hassle to have to re-glue the sensors, several times.
Second thing was minor, and strictly a visual thing. The center section of the rim is the same, front and rear, 17" rims and 18" rims, and the difference in the size of the 18" outer barrels, makes the centers look different, front and rear. It's a minor thing, I know, and it isn't as noticeable when the wheel is all silver, as opposed to the black center, polished rim.
However, those wheels did look good on the car, and there are times I regret selling them. Someone with a Z-06 has them now, so the TPMS deal wasn't an issue to him.....
Yes polished Classics can be a bit of extra work to keep ubber shiny and looking their best but the extra work is worth it. I've thought about powder coating or anodizing mine before and after a nice day of polishing and then looking at the gleaming finished product thoughts about powder coating or anodizing go "bye bye". Granted, they are your wheels and you can do what you want with them but on your Z I say leave them polished. IF anything MAYBE do the bolts in a contrast color but that's it.
I've got all polished Classics in 18" front and rear. Several times I have considered selling them to do 19" rears. Then I look at them all cleaned up to sell and change my mind. Believe me, there are plenty of people who would have bought them very quickly, but then I'd come to my senses. Your car looks great with polished wheels. Plus, I get lots of compliments on my car, and you've got to know those wheels are catching people's eyes.
Every time I see black wheels on a EB C5,it takes away the pop. dark car with classic polished wheels is about as nice as it gets... in this case.. " Classic " hits the nail right on the head... you could not ask for a more " Wow factor " car color, wheel finish combination.
My vote would be to powder coat the center of the wheel black and then leave the lip polished. I love that look and I think it would look great with the EB.
