Head unit problem.
He had the adapter kit, and claims that it is a straight through plug and play, with no cutting of wires.,
I told him that on this forum I have read that an aftermarket unit has to be wired into something other than just plugging the connectors together.
I am not sure just what gets wired where, but I think it has something to do with finding a source for the wire that is used to power up the unit.
He said it was something about being tied into some sort of remote, which of course, I have no idea what the hell he is talking about.
The rest seems to work as it should, the antenna goes up when the unit powers up, and it stays on until I open the door, once the key has been removed.
Also the unit doesn't sit far enough in the dash, and he said he would have to design something that can bring the unit in about an inch or so more than what it is.
This dude came recommended to me, but I really don't have much faith in him.
It is going back Tuesday so he can fix it right.
Can anyone tell me more about the wiring for an aftermarket unit?
I am sure I read somewhere that a hot lead has to go to a fuse or something like that.
Bob.
When the bose head unit is removed from the wire harness the accessories power lead is disconnected by the pcm. The acc wire is what 'tells' your headunit to turn on so you'll have to tap into some other source for this. The easiest place to tap this lead from is fuse number 22 under the passenger floor board.

It's been so long since i put in my HU but i think there is a metal bracket in the area of where the radio goes that needs to be cut out, or maybe that was on another car i owned...

And yes, most aftermarket heads with CD players need that bracket trimmed or (possibly) just bent back out of the way.
