Default selective ride control

I saw it in the corvette owners manual and realized that I do not have that selector switch on my console. I have on 04 which has almost every option available but do not have this one. At least I think it is an option
Am I missing something? What does it do?

It changes the ride from a stiffer "sport" mode to a softer "touring mode". It was about an additional $1600 option and is VERY costly when replacing the magnetic shocks. Name: vertwave.gif

RPO Code F55. To see which options your car came with check the sticker on the inside of your glovebox door. List of codes can be found at http://www.vettefacts.com/C5/2004.aspx

It was an option and an expensive one at that. Some like it, some don't. As mentioned, the cost to replace a bad shock is very expensive if you go with OEM replacements.

I'm not sure how the F55 was but I know the F45 system wasn't that great. I'm glad mine is gone

I like this option. It rides very nice in touring mode and stiffens up in sport mode when on mountain roads. That being said, I replaced both front shocks (the right one had a leak) for about $1800.

For the '03 and '04's the option was called Magnetic ride system, the Selective ride was for earlierC5's. Magnetic ride is still available on all upper end GM's including Corvette C7...so it probably is not a bad ride system being around for almost 12 years now. I have it on my '03 Corvette and use it on some of the bad roads around here. My GF always switches to touring when I am not looking, lol. There is an immediate ride difference!!! No moving parts on these shocks except the piston so not much to go wrong I am told. Rob

The SRC option (F45) was stock on my 99 C5. Worked well for the 1st year I had the car (2012-2013), then three of the shocks leaked after 80K miles.

Checked pricing on replacements. Monroe had some for around $450-600 each, GM around $7-800 each (even GM Partshouse). Then it was $300 installation on top of that.

I got the Z51 C6 sway bars/bushings, Bilstein Z51 shocks, reprogrammed the F45 option out of the computer and installation for under $1200 installed.

I figured I could leave it in "Performance" mode on the selector permanently. It's been a fine upgrade.

My 04 has the MRC (F55) and it works fine, so until it screws up, I'll leave it alone. When it does, I'll do the same type upgrade.

I just can't cost justify $4000 for four shocks with installation.

03-04 were Magnetic Selective Ride Control (F55), earlier were Selective Real Time Damping (F45)
