Lately, I've begun to notice that my car's engine turns over longer before it finally fires up and starts. This problem usually occurs after the car has been driven long enough for the engine to reach normal operating temperature, then parked and left to sit for a while. When I do try to start it, the engine will simply turn over without starting, as if it were flooded (it isn't - - I don't "pump" the gas pedal). It will usually start right up on the second try, however.
Anyone else out there experience this problem? I'm taking it in to the dealer's on Monday, but I'd sure like to know what's wrong, first.
Thanks
You can't "flood" the EFI controlled engine by "pumping" the gas pedal.
There is NO accelerator pump like carbs have.
You can pump the gas a zillion times and it will have minimum affect on the A/F Ratio during the start sequence.
There can be a lot of reasons for your hard start problem.
Has the ECM set any codes?
Can you connect a scanner and get some of the parameters that might be causing the problem?
A little more information might be useful.
Good luck with it.
You might be getting some injector leak-down, which causes fuel to be released slowly thru the injectors after the car's turned off, causing a rich condition. My '93 coupe suffers from this .. after you turn it off, it will restart immediately unless it's been sitting for more than a few minutes, at which point it will spin a few times before starting. Alternately, if I let it sit until it's good and cold, (like overnight) it will again start immediately.
You might try an injector-cleaning treatment to see if that helps.

:nono: I would have the dealer look at it first.
I was told by my dealer not to add ANYTHING to the 'vette's gas tank, even an injector cleaner. I'm having the same problem though and my warranty is up. Any thoughts from anyone else on what to do?

I didn't mean to suggest adding an injector cleaner to the tank. I believe GM has a procedure that cleans the injectors by injecting a cleaner directly into the fuel rails, from a cannister. I think this would be a dealer service.
The dealer replaced my fuel pressure regulator first, thinking that it was the guilty culprit. Next, they discovered a faulty check valve in my fuel pump. The bad valve was allowing my fuel pressure to bleed off after starting, which would then result in the hard starting.
Have someone check this for you...
I just tried charging the battery and it wouldn't take a charge. There are a bunch of codes, but they are all historical (with an H). I've gotta run, maybe when I get back from today's run I'll write them down and post 'em.
I just got finished dealing with this EXACT same problem!
Simple and easy to fix.
1.) Drive to a dealer
2.) Tell them to just shut up and listen
3.) Tell them to replace the fuel return "check valve"
I almost had my car with less than 1000 miles on it lemon lawed due to their inability to listen to me, diagnose, and repair the issue. This issue plagued me since day one of purchase and 20 miles on the odometer.
Anyhow what happens is that the faulty check valve causes loss of fuel pressure after the motor is shut off and thus the extended crank up time whilst it builds up pressure in the line again.
And this is a COMMON vette problem according to the tech they spoke to from KY. So should anyone experience that cranking cranking cranking start problem after driving around and letting their car sit for 20+min it is most likely the fuel return check valve.
