Default Whats it worth??

Been looking around for an early model C5 and ran into a Red 97 from a local dealership with 53K miles, 6spd, clean interior/exterior and everything seemed to be functional when I drove it.....curious what you guys think it was worth.

I'll play,
Asking $14K
Taking $12,500
Let me know if I win anything.

That's a mid-mileage car for a newer C5, but almost a low mileage for an early C5. I might be a tad low on the taking, but the asking is about right.

Could have seen some winter weather up there - - without knowing more on service/maintenance/tires - - -$13-14-ish tops.

Thanx Gman...Negotiating anything of this nature is just pulling teeth! one has their figure pushing down on the scale the other is pushing up hoping to get the price down, ofcourse this has been going on since Day One, and sure everyone wants to make a buck and everyone wants to save a buck, so where does it end

This is the best month to negotiate a deal on a new car or a used car.. the years end deals are what helps to make dealership quotas for the year...
The best day of course would be Dec 31... this is where GM pays off their incentives to dealerships for units sold... used cars are also benefited with year end sales for used car salesman trying to make their quota, and receiving their bonus.. If you want the car for 13.5 out the door, bring in a cashiers check for that amount and tell them you are going to buy a C5 today... here is my offer and my check, if I leave I wont be back because I will find the car I want for the right price somewhere else today. Someone will get my money .
They hate to see a paying customer ready to deal with money ion the pocket , walk out the door, knowing they are ready to buy. that car costs them money everyday it stays on their floor plan.

I believe that might work in theory but might be worth a try

I've been around dealerships for 55 years of my 70 years of life, Between myself and my wife and kids I have purchased 27 new cars in my lifetime. Tgis is how you push all the right buttons to take advantage of every advantage. They can still say no.. but, this method puts it all on the table... at this time of year, You are in the driver's seat to get a good deal.

The best prices you'll find will be private party. I highly recommend that route.

Been looking for awhile but nothing from private partys or atleast nothing Im interested in. Thats why Im hoping to get the one Ive been negotiating on from a dealer. They keep saying $15K and I keep saying $13,5. I could throw my 92 in as a trade but we all know how that works

Unless you need a car right away, it would likely pay off (a few grand) to wait and find one private party. May need to drive for it, but that's a great way to get familiar with a new car.

Also, have you pulled NADA values? They can be pretty good bargaining leverage if a dealer is overvaluing a car.

throwing NADA numbers at them is like pissing in the wind, but ya know what? its near years end and if they wanna reduce their inventory and make a sale, Ill be glad to ablige.

Default Here's what I did...

It took months of watching Autrader.com and Craig's List for me to settle on the C5 I bought in September. Here's my take:

Buy from a private party and get to know them ahead of time. Have the car inspected first. Make sure it has no performance mods. Find a one or two owner car. I got a 2002 black on black coupe fully loaded with 71k miles, new run flat Michelin Pilots, and a power train, engine warranty that's good until April 2017 (the guy bought it a year ago for $3300), and I paid $14,500. for it.

Also, be aware that there are many C5s on Autotrader that have been there for months and months. If you find a motivated seller you can get a Vette for much less than NADA says they're worth. Plus, since you don't want a Z06 (like I didn't) you have the advantage of buying a car that was less likely to have been driven as hard, and it's less in demand, judging by all the people out there shopping who seem to prefer the fixed roof Z06
