Wanted a key for my 2001 made but no blank was available. I had a key made for my 2011 Tacoma and I had the option of either a key with chip that would open the door and start the truck or a key without a chip just to unlock the door. I had hoped to do the same thing with my C5. Is the key blank a dealership item? Thanks, Bob

Check with your local lock smiths, You can get them for just the door or door and start the car, You can also get them off eBay for like 10 bucks, But be sure you know your resistance code.
There are 15 different key blanks, each with a different resistor in it. You will either need to know which key you need by measuring the resistance in the chip or will have to go the dealer with your VIN to determine. Once you get the right key it can be cut anywhere.
There have been several recent posts with a chart of resistance vs. the key blank number.

You should be able to just get a blank key to open the door from a key shop. As Mr.Bill stated, if you want one to do the door and ignition, a locksmith can help you out as long as they have the right resistance value of the chip.
Thanks for the timely responses. I went out to my truck and got my meter. I'm reading 372 ohms. Do you think I should assume that is close enough and buy a #1 blank? Bob
Edit: I just saw this, maybe I am a real knucklehead and don't understand decimal points, lol! Maybe I have a #10. I'm getting my meter back out.
6.50 for the key is ok, I would rather have a GM key with the logo on it which these don't I believe. Also they are the small head keys.
On one of these keys I will be cutting the plastic off and trimming off most of the metal on the head of the key. I did this with my door key for my truck. I did the same with my house keys. I drilled a hole through all of them, put them together with a brass machine screw and nut. I cut off the excess machine screw and peened it with a hammer. I now have an extremely compact set of keys. They are mostly as back up/emergency or so I can leave my truck running and lock the doors while I go in a convenience store for coffee.
