Leaking battery questions

Leaking battery questions
Many posts/threads about the leaky battery problem. Just out of curiosity:
-Were certain battery makes just junk?
-Were people tightening the posts too much? There IS a proper torque spec if I remember correctly...
-Is it temperature related (i.e., cold weather making battery case crack)?
I took an ACDelco battery (I think the # was PS 75; looked pretty new) out of the Vette I just bought a few months ago when I put it into storage. Wiring and battery tray were dirty but no evidence of white stuff or any corrosion.
I'm just wondering if I NEED to buy another battery or just be careful about how tight the posts are when I put it back in the spring...

To be safe I put a battery mat under my battery. It's cheap insurance.

I've been here a year and haven't heard of anyone having a leaking battery problem so far this year.

I do remember reading a number of posts about some factory lead acid batteries leaking - and seems like some of the leaks were caused by over tightening the post bolts too tight (especially the side posts).
