Ran across a silver/black interior 97 auto with 41K miles but no other info at this time, said 14K is firm, am going their this Tuesday to check it out>>>>>>>I know thiers not much to go on but whatdo ya think??
If the car is as good as it looks in the pictures and everything is working properly AND you like it, where will you equal the performance and fun for the dollars? If your gut feels good about it, buy it and enjoy. It looks like a nice car. My Z06 has 130k miles and I still love it. The dollars don't mean anything to me.
If the car looks nice and has service records (optional), go for it.
As a comparison, I bought my '97 eight years ago. It had 43K miles and I paid $20K. The only upgrade it had when I bought it was chrome Y2K thin-spokes.
C5s essentially got better the later they were made (especially 01-04's are much more desirable than 97-00's), but the car looks clean and the price is reasonable. Not trying to knock the car, but its a good way to negotiate the price, you can say that 97's aren't as valuable as later years.
For comparison I bought an '03 vert with 45K miles for 21K, the convertible and later years adds to the price.
If you the price is your budget, it seems like a good choice if the car checks out.
As you prolly guessed I gave up on that red one with the 6spd and amgetting too old to mess with a clutch all the time, my "red ticket" hotrod days are over and now just lookin for a nice cruzzer, so will LYK how it goes and thanx for the replys

Just went to check it out and drove it too. seemed to run fairly well but hada minor steering shake at 55 and some RR minor interior stuff, the seat also had a minor rock like most C5s. It started to rain so couldn't too much more and never hada chance to look under the hood. I also felt the seller was in a hurry to unload the vehicle for a quik sale so that kinda bothered me, otherwise Id give it a 8/10 but still didn't feel right. forgot too mention right after the guy drove the car In tried to start it 3 times and 3 times it wouldn't fire over, don't know if that means anything but didn't think it was right.

you are probably a guy who bitches about pot holes in roads, and at the same time tries to skip out of taxes you owe.
Tax revenue is how they pay to fix the roads, in case you didn't make the connection.

$14k with the things already mentioned and not looking under the hood nd under the car is too much. Check for leaks on the abs module which sits back with the tranny. Does the dic works as it should? Pull codes while you are there. Turn signals, etc. Weatherstrip condition.
You really need to love the car to see past these things, not to mention maintenance records, etc. I own a 97 as well, bought not knowing what I know now, I'm having a lot of fun bringing it back to snuff, but that's not everyone's cup of tea. If the seller wants a quick sale offer him no more than $11k to gage his reaction.
They guy that sold me mine had harmonic balancer issue which he didnt know/wanted to deal with, along with other things.
Good luck and post more questions if you have any.....

thanx, and forgot too mention things happened fast so I left out some info. the bottom line is I felt like the guy was in a hurry and didn't really want to take the time to go thru all that needed to be done, but If I really did fall in love with the car would have ask to have it inspected, but wasn't the case, so the search goes on.
