Merry Christmas everybody. "REDHOTS" started a thread on shocks and I rudely asked a question regarding my car so sorry for the interruption. I should have started my own thread.
My question was about replacing shocks because mine were leaking oil. The car has 33000 miles on it and I think they were damaged because the shock stuffers were still in the car when I bought it with 26000 miles. I was told that new shocks would be around 500.00 each, someone mentioned that was way to much. I went to one of the vendors here and the rears were 600.00 plus and the fronts over 300.00 plus each. I think it is because of the electronic ride system.
Does anyone have a suggestion, I am 70 and just want a nice ride but don't want to compromise the car. If I put just regular shocks on will that mess up any electrical causing codes to start coming up.
Went to this site and the one you suggested. Yours didn't show the shock with electronic ride...regulars about 162 each and electronics 633.00 each big difference. http://www.cultragfactoryparts.com/a...uspension-scat

Give either one a call or email. Both are CF vendors.

If you want to keep the Mag Ride shocks, you're going to pay a pretty penny for them. Others have decided to go with regular shocks (like C6 Z06 shocks) and then get the F55 option tuned out. Here is a document that explains what is involved.

I can't open that file. Does a dealer have to do it or can it be tuned out by the owner?
That was the answer I was looking for and the link was perfect. Thank you again and to all the other folks who helped.

If you have a TeckII you can do it.according to the attached note....but I wouldn't try myself as I can see the car catching fire or more codes coming up.

I have not put the Z06 shocks on my car, yet. My car only has 20K miles on it and the stock shocks are still going strong, but some day I will make the change and am really leaning towards the C6 Z06 shocks Plenty of forum members have made that change though.
The Mag Ride Shocks, as a stand alone option in '03, was a $5,000 option.
It was included as part of the total 1SC Anniversary option package.
They keep the car planted in all situations - a very good thing and a very safe benefit.
Leakers happen. The replacement expense is hefty.
Don't let price make you eliminate the Mag Ride !
Try to get help GM / Dealer to help with the price based on your stuffer issue.
It will be hard to prove, but it was a common miscue in dealer prep.
Persistance pays, and in this case, perhaps GM can help pay or defray some the expenses involved in replacing the leaker(s).

Bottom line, don't be cheap
Price will make me eliminate magnetic ride. I wish my car did not come with the option.
