Weird, it may be gears but i doubt it, if u had no problem before battery swap i would think it is an electrical issue. Wish i could help, will b interested in the fix.
There are, I believe four, nylon plastic bumpers (stops) on each headlight. They are easily recognizable. They can wear or fall off. They can be purchased from any of the forum vendors. Check and see if any are worn or missing. It's an easy fix
How does the stops work, not doughting u , just courious. I assume the lights hit the stops and something like a torque switch detects the increased torque and tells the light mechanisms to stop and if the stop is missing it throws the system out of sink. Is that even close to how it works? Thanks

If you open the hood and pop up the lights, you will see these nylon stops, one is visible the headlight motor and the other is on the backside of the headlight door. Compare sides to make sure they are there and inspect to see if they are worn.

It's my understanding (from previous threads) that if they're missing or worn, it will cause the headlamp doors to open. I've read you can pull them off with plyers and turn the over to expose the better side. They are inexpensive to replace. Hope this helps.
Yes mine was doing the same thing I bought four of the nylon bumpstops from corvette central and that cured it. the ones on the bottom are hard to find you have to open your headlight take off the plastic shroud and feel around t the botdown in there for a square tab bottom ones are your culprit I ended up not even replacing the top two.
It happened to me on the driver's side when I first got my car (a 2000). New bump stops cured it and it's been fine now since replacing those for over a year. This is a common problem making the lights pop up.
