Default HVAC Unit

Need some help with what to do next.

1. HVAC unit is the original on a 2000 Corvette with dual controls
2. I've replaced the ambient temperature sensor in the front bumper twice
3. It was giving sporadic readings preventing the AC from turning on
4. Now when the car is started, it immediately reads 16 degrees and in about 20 it starts reading correctly
5. Yes in Southern Florida AC is needed in late December

I'm thinking the next logical step is to replace the HVAC unit. Is there anything is I should try before that?

Hey Top, thanks for your service.

It takes a few minutes for the temperature reading to adjust to the correct setting.
If you keep the car garaged, it will begin near to the temperature of your garage. When you start out it will gradually move to the ambient temp.
Mine takes about 3-5 minutes.
16 degrees in FL? I assume you're talking C not F.

Pull the connector apart and take a look at the pins where the outside temp sensor plugs into the wiring at the front of the car. I bet the pins are dirty, corroded, or bent.

I had the same issue as you. Issue I had was the connector that the sensor connects to was rusty inside. You can get a replacement connector at Napa auto parts. Been fine after that.

A friends car has the same issue. the contacts for the temp sensor in the wiring harness are corroded. At some point we will be splicing in a new connector.
