But have never heard of the Corvette having two different paint codes for Torch Red in the '02 model. Source?
My local auto paint store came out with (2) PPG paint chips, one slightly darker
and Automotive Touch up gave this reply, "I only see one code but 2 formulas for that code-one a little darker than the other. It is best to order by the code listed on the car."
As far as I know OEM Code 70 has been the only code for every year Torch Red was used. But on the RPO Label it's listed as :
70U BC/CC ( Base Coat/ Clear Coat ) U9075
"GM code WA9075 - red
This red automotive paint color is most commonly known as Torch Red. The color formulation has been used between 1990 and 2015, primarily by GM. Variations of the exterior paint code WA9075, which may appear on body data tags include: 9075, U9075, and L9075 (the prefix U for upper body, or L for lower body)."
I looked and have not found any indication that there are 2 shades of the same color.
Here is my RPO Label off of my Torch Red 04 so you can see what to look for on yours !
If you look here and scroll down to the 2002 model year paint codes, you will see the WA9075 paint code on the far right but also paint codes from assorted auto paint manufacturers such as R-M, PPG, Sherwin-Williams and others. Auto paint supply stores should be able to provide information about the percentage of coloring tints based on brands they carry.
Body shops will typically have only one brand of paint and their paint system computer will mix colorants based on the brand they have. If that mix doesn't match the OEM paint, then they will add more colorants and paint some sample panels so that everything will match up in the booth.
Now comes the sad part, Seeing my Corvette when I take the cover off of it in WINTER storage with 2+ months of winter left here in Minnesota
